Silicon dioxide commonly known as silica is present in many foods that we eat daily. It plays very important role in the human development and growth. It is also an important component of several pharmaceutical drugs especially the tablets. Many processed foods also come with silicone dioxide as an additive supplement. It is added in food externally for various reasons primarily due to its outstanding health benefits. Silicon dioxide is also used an anti-caking agent. In this way, it prevents the ingredients of the food mixture from binding together.
Most spices which are sprinkled on chips and others snacks also contain silicone dioxide supplements to help enhance its taste. There are many more ways in which silicone dioxide is used as food additive supplement. The primary question that most people ask is its safety when used this way. The safety of silicon dioxide is a prime concern to many people and experts as its use as food additive is rapidly growing. It is largely considered that silicone dioxide that is added to food as anti-caking agent is not safe for human health when its content is more than 2 percent of the total weight.
